Disney Vacation Club Rentals
Do you want more space for less money? Do you want to stay on Disney World property within walking distance to the parks without the hefty price tag? Do you want the perks of staying at Walt Disney World Resort such as early entry and extended evening hours for moderate resort prices? Do you want to have access to a full kitchen and washer/dryer in your room? Then a Disney Vacation Club rental might just be the right strategy for your next Disney World vacation.

1. Introduction: What is DVC Renting?

Disney Vacation Club (DVC) is the timeshare program through Disney. Anyone can buy a certain number of vacation points for a certain fee per point. Owners are guaranteed to have a certain number of points each year until their expiration date. Travelers have the option to rent available points from a DVC owner who is not using all of their points before they expire. There are many reasons for owners to rent their points. Some owners might not take a trip in the near future, and do not want to waste their points (not using points would be a waste of money for the owner!) There also times where owners have a vacation to Disney World planned but then have to cancel their trip suddenly (for many reasons!), and they don't want their points and money to go to waste. Renting DVC points is an attractive option for people who want to save money staying in a deluxe category resort. Travelers can expect to save around 30-60% off Disney's rack rates for the exact same rooms.

2. Which Disney World Resorts Have Rooms A Part of Disney Vacation Club?

Currently, there are 13 Disney Vacation Club Resorts. There are several different room types, including duo studios (sleeps up to 2), studios (sleeps up to 4-5), 1-bedrooms (sleeps up to 4-5), 2-bedrooms (sleeps up to 8-10), and 3-bedrooms (sleeps up to 12). There are also special room accommodations including bungalows, cabins, and treehouse villas, which all require more DVC points and therefore, would be the most expensive option. If you are vacationing with multiple families, then 2- and 3- bedroom options would be great options to split the bill. As nice as 1-bedroom accommodations are, they require more points than a studio. Renting a DVC Studio is definitely a more cost effective option for a family of 4 or 5.

3. Why Rent DVC Points? (The Pros)

-
Deluxe Resorts for Less: Access to the best hotels (Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Beach Club) for the price of a Moderate resort like Caribbean Beach.
-
More Space: Access to 1-, 2-, and 3-Bedroom Villas with full kitchens and in-room laundry.
-
Deluxe Perks: Renters get all the perks of a Deluxe guest, including Extended Evening Hours at the parks.
-
Free Parking: Unlike standard hotel guests, DVC guests do not pay for overnight self-parking at the resorts.

4. The "Catch" (The Cons & Risks)

-
Strict Cancellation Policies: Most rentals are non-refundable. Travel insurance should be seriously considered.
-
Planning Ahead: You often need to book 7–11 months out. Last-minute availability is very rare.
-
Limited Housekeeping: Unlike standard hotels, "Mousekeeping" usually only visits every 4 days for trash and towel service.
-
Payment Upfront: Most brokers require full or 50% payment at the time of booking.

5. How the Process Works (Step-by-Step)

-
Check Availability: Use a point calculator on a broker's site to see if your dates are even possible.
-
Submit a Request: You provide your dates and top resort choices.
-
The Match: The broker finds a member with the right points to "claim" your request.
-
Payment & Confirmation: You pay the broker; they pay the member and send you a Disney confirmation number.
-
Link to My Disney Experience: You add that number to your app just like any other reservation.

6. Where to Rent: Brokers vs. Private Owners

Brokers (e.g., David’s Vacation Club Rentals, DVC Rental Store):
-
Pros: Safer, standard contracts, intermediary support.
-
Cons: Slightly higher price per point.
Private Owners (e.g., Facebook Groups, DisBoards):
-
Pros: Lowest possible price.
-
Cons: Requires high trust; no "middleman" if things go wrong.

7. How Does Renting a DVC Room Work?
DVC members can book their "Home Resort" 11 months out, but other resorts only at 7 months. If you want a popular spot like Beach Club (for the pool) or Polynesian, you will have better luck if you request a DVC Room at the 11-month mark through one of the brokers.
DVC rental companies often have "Confirmed Reservations" for sale. These are trips members already booked but can no longer use. They are often even cheaper than renting points and are great for closer-in dates (0–4 months out). However, you will still be able to find confirmed reservations farther out in advanced - the savings might not be as great as a date closer to travel time.

8. Which DVC Rental Companies Are Trustworthy?
From personal experience of communicating with and renting DVC rooms, I can point you to 3 trustworthy third-party DVC rental companies. DVC Rental Store, DVC Rental Advantages, and David's Vacation Club Rentals all have different approaches to pricing, payments, and refunds.
